DANCE RAGA FOR THE DUSK

The genesis of this picture came through an experience of dance during a movement session. This is what I wrote at the time:

‘There was a part of the movements which felt like a sacred raga that we were dancing rather than singing.  It seemed to relate to the darkness that was falling and it was as if we were part of that and were dancing a sacred ritual.  As if we were dancing in the darkness and night.  It was very beautiful.

I felt very much that we were three together.  Unlike many times I felt that we were an equal trinity and that the movements expressed this.  The movements were very easy and I felt very confident.’

In this picture I wanted to get some feeling of the dance bringing in, maybe celebrating, the darkness of the night gradually falling.  In my initial visual notes I tried to express this although the final way that it happened in the picture wasn’t like anything I had expressed in the notes.
